Agenda: Registries and Clearinghouse - Use of
clearinghouse for AIP-3 metadata record experiments
- Practice for
depositing / registering vocabularies / ontologies
Attending: Josh
Lieberman, Nadine Alameh, Steve Browdy, Joan Maso, Stefan Falke Discussion: Semantics - Coordination
needed between GEO ontology task and AIP-3 semantics group, but the GEO
task is going very slowly.
- Steve - presentations only change
very little.
Clearinghouse - Steve - lots of
functional testing involved of all three clearinghouses, using the
Eliot Christian Z39.50 tool. USGS clearinghouse did much better. Not
clear why that work went into Yang's group.
- Consolidated
clearinghouse requirements document - registries, clearinghouses,
portals.
- Connection to AIP-3:
- Can GEOSS Common
Record (GCR) metadata be harvested?
- Can the clearinghouse be
queried for GCR mapped from other harvested metadata?
Common
Record - Addition of Data Quality Status -
- Joan -
connected to GEO "Label" expression of data quality for GEOSS use.
- Josh
- tend to have the problem of needing "quality of metadata" measures,
or meta-metadata, which is not yet well standardized
- Stefan -
within air community, quality propagation and provenance is a concern.
QA4EO may be concerned with this, but focus and current activity seem to
be on cross-calibration, not propagation or documentation
- Stefan
- contextual metadata issue - who else has used data, what are its
limitations or intended use? Connection between quality and suitability.
Potential conflict with GEOSS goal of "unintended use".
- Josh -
in particular, data product may be correlated with / derived from
another product which someone else tests / corroborates with the first
product. Can we suggest test of these particular examples of
inappropriate usage.
- Data quality flags from EPA --- need to see
whether those are general, and also useful. Tend to be for individual
values, such as "outside of calibration range"
Actions: - Josh
- check with Doug Nebert / Phil Yang about clearinghouse support for
GCR
- Joan - review ISO Core values for completeness
- Steve
- link to consolidated requirements
- Nadine - Check with George
on workshop outcomes - task coordination
- Stefan - more
generalized data quality flags
